Castries blaze shows fire department needs attention says association

(SNO) – A blaze in the heart of Castries recently shows the fire department needs attention for it to function in a modern way, the Saint Lucia Fire Service Association wishes to recognize the efforts of its’ fellow Fire.

On November 21, a fire completely destroyed the Adjodha Building on the William Peter Boulevard in the capital.

According to the association, the fire revealed a number of factors affecting the department, among them human and physical resources and the lack of modern equipment.

“There is no doubt that a fire of this magnitude within the heart of the city posed a great challenge to the department,” the association said in a release. “To date the department is experiencing constraints with both human and physical resources which play a critical role in the managing and mitigating fires.”

The association also said the fire should indicate to the authorities that more attention should be place to allow the department to function in a modern way.

“This fire should also serves as an indication to the authorities that the fire department require the necessary attention to allow it to function as a modern fire department equipped with the capacity and capabilities to cater to the needs of our nation which is
developing,” the statement said. “We salute the Officers for their dedication and perseverance for a job well done.”
