Over the years the Rotaract Club of St. Lucia has been a very active club, not only in Saint Lucia but across the Rotaract District 7030 which spans from the islands of St. Kitts down to Suriname.
Some of our notable projects include the Installation of playground equipment at various schools –Entrepot, Cul De Sac Pre School and Dunnattor School, Soufriere Infant, Seven Seas Rotaract Spelling Bee competitions for primary school students, renovation of a store room to store hazardous materials at the Dunnattor School as well as teaming up with Special Olympics by being mentors to the special athletes and much more and youth
On December 24th, 2013, St. Lucia experienced significantly enhanced rainfall and thunderstorm activity which was as a result of a low level trough. Canaries and Anse La Raye were the two communities, where persons are still considered to be living in deplorable conditions.
As part of celebrations of our 30th Charter anniversary, April 22nd 2015, continuing on the path of serving others, …what we are and what, we do we teamed with the Anse La Raye and Canaries Community Disaster Relief Team with support from our Rotary Club of St.Lucia and members of the committee, to bring to fruition our “Build Hope, Give Hope” project which commenced in April and came to completion in May 2015.
This project was funded by the West Indian Association of Bermuda with the main goal of assisting persons who were severely affected by the 2013 Christmas Eve Trough. Beneficiaries are mainly persons in the communities of Anse la Raye and Canaries as they were the most severely affected by flooding due to their topography and also because of socioeconomic conditions which made it difficult to recover quickly. The immediate objectives was to aid selected person(s) in reconstruction of their home damaged by the 2013 Christmas Eve Trough and provide food hampers and agricultural supplies for sustainability.
Rotaract Club of Saint Lucia officially executes the handing over of the home to the victim and her daughter affected by the Christmas Trough, along with Hampers to other persons of the Canaries community on Saturday June 13th 2015. All thanks to the West Indian Association of Bermuda our public sponsors, our sponsoring Rotary Club of St. Lucia and community members; serving above self.
