The authorities are being urged to implement some measure to ensure that cattle farmers take greater responsibility for their animals, so they do not end up on the streets.
Florey Alfred, told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) on Wednesday that she and her husband were involved in an accident on the Allan Bousquet Highway, which involved a cow.
Alfred said the incident occurred on Monday at around 7:20 p.m., near Caribbean Cinemas.
She said her husband had just picked her up from the cinema and driving on the highway when the cow came across the road and into the path of the vehicle.
Alfred said the cow fell to the ground and got right back up and escaped into the bushes.
Her husband’s vehicle was extensively damaged and she was shaken up by the incident.
The woman claims her husband was driving between 20-25 miles per hour at the time. She believes they could have been badly hurt if he was driving at a much faster rate.
Alfred said this is not the first time that drivers have come into contact with cows, particularly in that area.
She believes it’s high time that something is done to address the issue.
