seaFour men from St. Lucia who were picked up by a cruise ship after they were allegedly stranded at sea for several days, are back on island but are now being investigated by the police.

The men – three from Marigot and one from Ciceron – arrived in St. Lucia around 7 a.m. today on board Celebrity Eclipse cruiseship, Police Marine Unit Chief Finley Leonce has told St. Lucia News Online.

Leonce said officers from the Unit were waiting on the quartet when the ship arrived.

He said the officers escorted the men to the Police Marine Unit where statements were taken from them.

“They are still in custody because the investigation is still ongoing,” Leonce said.

The senior cop could not say at this time if the men are under criminal investigation. However, he pointed out that at this time they have not been charged with any crime.

The men reportedly left St. Lucia on Wednesday, March 8 for a fishing expedition, relatives said.

However, when they did not return home at a certain time and attempts to communicate with them proved futile, relatives contacted police who in turn requested regional assistance to locate the men. However this proved futile.

It was learned only yesterday that the men were picked up by a Celebrity cruise ship and taken to Barbados.
